After recent events were I found out an ex co-worker life was taken, it made me start thinking about life and how it’s taken for granted. We live in a world where most people live by the phrase “time is money.” Everything needs to be fast, quick and in a hurry, to put it into perspective I’ll use a phrase from the movie Talladega Nights: The Ricky Bobby Story “If you’re not first, you’re last”. I have honestly lost track of how many times I’ve been cut off or a car has flown by me driving down the turning lane or bike lane just to get to the 7-11 or Starbucks a minute faster. We have become a group of individuals who don’t know what patience is. We live for fast cars, fast food, fast results, pretty much fast everything. I’m not going to say I’m perfect, as I’ve caught myself wondering why the person in front of me is driving so slow just to realize they were driving the speed limit. Regardless if you’re running late to work, to an interview, a date, or whatever else it may be, it can wait. Enjoy the moment, even if you’re stuck on the 405 at 5pm in the middle of summer. For those of you who are not from LA just imagine being in a mall parking lot during black Friday and multiply it by 10. I also am not only talking about driving fast, it also applies in so many other aspects of our daily lives. I’m sure we have all experienced, or have been that one customer who walks into a crowded restaurant and spends the entire time complaining about how long it’s taking to be seated. It can be something simple as trying to research something on google and the page takes a while to load. Our first thought is something must be wrong or the site must be down, when in reality it just takes a few extra minutes. I think the biggest example that everyone can relate to is seeing all these fad diets or joining the gym thinking you are going to go from overweight to body builder in a matter of a week or two. As a society I think a lot of us need to remember to stop and smell the roses. For those reading this and have never heard this, I don’t mean it literally, I mean take the time to enjoy where you are, or what you’re doing. If you’re stuck in traffic put the radio up and enjoy some alone time, if you’re at a party you don’t want to be at try to make some new friends. Don’t start thinking about how fast you can leave or how fast you can get thru grid lock. Think of it this way no one wants to travel the world and be told that the plain is only going to land then take off to its next destination. You are going to want to get out and explore, visit new places, take a moment and admire the beauty. This should be something you try to do in your everyday life, because I’m pretty sure that all those people who are always rushing have missed some marvelous things in their lives that were right in front of their face. Well with that being said it time for me to go for now and do my own exploring and admire the beauty around me. So until next time, take the time to live, love and be happy.
